Tyler — UPDATE (Wednesday, 2:30pm): Tyler Police are awaiting the examination of medical records to positively confirm the identity of the driver who was killed in a one vehicle crash on Cumberland Road that occurred on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Around 9:00 p.m., Tyler Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the 400 block of W. Cumberland Road. Fire officials discovered a vehicle that crashed into a tree and was fully engulfed in flames. The driver was located behind the steering wheel and was burned beyond recognition.
Police officials will not release the identity of the driver until we have positively confirmed the identification by means of dental records.
The vehicle was heading west bound on Cumberland and struck a curb causing it to leave the roadway. The vehicle then crashed into a tree and caught on fire. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle that was discovered.
This case is under investigation.
