According to CNN, Tunisian protesters have breached the U.S. Embassy in Tunis.
They have lowered the American flag from its pole and are raising the black flag of the protestors in its place.
This information was provided to CNN by an eyewitness.
Hundreds of protesters headed to the neighborhood that's home to U.S. Embassy in Tunisia's capital earlier on Friday, the eyewitness told CNN.
Police were forced to bulk up their presence with roadblocks leading to the embassy in Tunis. Hard-line Muslims known as Salafists were among the demonstrators, who were in pickup trucks and on foot.
Tunisian police were firing tear gas on hundreds of protesters scattered around the U.S. Embassy in Tunis, an eyewitness said, but protesters were able to reach the gates. Some protesters were climbing the gates and waving black flags, the witness said.
