WOOD COUNTY — UPDATE (5:47pm): Two men were run over by a tractor several times in Wood County on Friday afternoon.
Mineola Fire officials tell KETK, it happened on Highway 69, about a mile north of Mineola around 3:00pm.
Law enforcement was already increased for that area, due to a reported bomb threat which turned out to be false.
Authorities with the Wood County Game Warden's office were driving north on Hwy. 69, when they noticed an unmanned tractor doing circles in a field.
They went to investigate, and noticed a man in the field struggling to move.
Before they could get to him, he was run over twice.
When they were able to reach him, they had to move him several times, because the tractor was still moving around the area.
It missed the three men by less than a foot, before finally becoming lodged with metal fencing and coming to a rest.
The man told officials he had been run over at least four times.
Another citizen arrived on scene, and managed to turn off the tractor.
Thats when officials noticed a second man laying nearby.
Both were flown to a Tyler hospital with serious injuries, but were alive and speaking when they left the scene.
Mineola Fire officials tell KETK, "If not for the increased law enforcement, and the heroic efforts of the officials, these men would not even be alive."
Authorities say, the two men had stopped to work on the tractor when it slipped into gear and took off.
The names of the victims have not been released.
