The State Legislature is gearing up for another session in January, and the political maneuvering has already begun.
And a powerful political action committee is backing a local representative.
And the guy in their crosshairs is the Speaker of the House, Joe Straus.
Joe Straus has never been a favorite of the Tea Party wing of the GOP.
District 5 Representative Bryan Hughes was one of those who challenged Straus in the last session, and one power lobbying group wants him to try it again.
Freedomworks is a political action committee co-founded by former Texas Congressman Dick Armey, and they want Straus to go.
And they are backing Hughes as a replacement.
But longtime Austin reporter Harvey Kronberg thinks it’s a doomed mission.
