Tyler, TX — Have you ever wished you would have known about a speed trap, before it's too late. Well, now you can.
In 2010, Tyler was ranked, one of two, of the worst cities in Texas for speed traps, the other being Houston.
Now there is an app called "iRadar," that some are using to prevent speeding tickets.
Regular detectors beep when radar is in the area, this App allows you to see where other people in your area have reported speed traps, red light cameras, and caution areas, before you even get there.
The App shows the exact location of a reported speed trap and then warns you when you are getting close to that location.
However,it seems like a lot of focus on your phone and off the road.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark says, "We know that anything that takes the driver's attention off the task at hand which is driving, is harmful not only to the driver but to all of the drivers that are around."
She also said, in East Texas there is an 86% chance of getting in a car crash and a majority of those are due to "driver in-attention."
One user says constantly looking at the screen is distracting, however, he finds a way to make this app beneficial.
"I would just look at the route before i left to see if there was anything on the way to where i was going," Carter Morby said.
