Jacksonville, TX — The Lon Morris Rodeo Arena has developed many memories for East Texans, from the "Tops in Texas Rodeo" and "Bull Bash". It has been the history of the arena.
Since Lon Morris closed summer 2012 because of financial struggles...gates have been closed.
"I'm very sad, Lon Morris College has been around for years, and it's been a big part of Jacksonville, and for it failing, I'm sadder for the children," says Debbie Dyess, Director of Bull Bash.
Debbie and her husband started Bull Bash in 2010...and says the arena is a great place for the community to hold rodeos.
When Dyess found out... Lon Morris was struggling, she offered support for agriculture programs, which Bull Bash proceeds went to.
Dyess tells KETK...she signed a contract to have the Bull Bash at the arena before they went into bankruptcy.
"I turned it over to God, and I asked god if this is what it's meant to be, I want it to be your blessing," says Debbie Dyess.
Dyess says, it has been a blessing, churches have come forward, to help with setting up and fundraisers to support the arena.
"This community really needs the opportunity to try to salvage Lon Morris is some way," says Deon Williams, Public Relations of events.
"It means a lot to our community and I hope we can hold on to it," says Debbie Dyess.
"Spooktacular Bull Bash" rodeo event will be held at the Lon Morris Rodeo Arena November 3rd, and it could possibly be the last rodeo show held at the arena.
