JACKSONVILLE — "R.I.P. Coach Stacy"...in just several hours time on Saturday afternoon, the facebook page grew to well over 1,000 'likes.'
Stacy Dewayne Hunter was a well-known and well-liked Pop Warner coach in Jacksonville...his personal facebook page says he has also worked for the city.
Hunter owned a club on Highway 69...Stacy's.
And it's there that family and friends say he was allegedly shot and killed early Saturday morning.
Those who knew Hunter gathered in his neighborhood to remember him...some had heard he was caught in the crossfire while trying to stop a fight over money. But his cousin Antonio Holman believes the shooting was no accident.
"Stacy looked at him and told him in a joking matter that he would have to kill me in order to get this money...but...this is what happens when...you know, we don't raise our kids. We stop raising our kids and we think it's...funny to be in the streets fighting and acting foolish," Holman said.
"Just one of those people that you could go to him and ask him for the shirt off of his back and he would give you the shirt off of his back with no problem," Holman said.
Holman says the shooter ended up taking money from his cousin and shooting him three times.
In the meantime, Coach Stacy's lasting impression on Jacksonville is evident...
