TYLER — Dennis and Alice Kutach met at the Texas State Fair in 1982.
Since then, they've been through a lot together...they were married 5 years later...and they even both had cancer at the same time several years ago.
But since '82, they've been to the State Fair every year.
"Well we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this year. And we wanted to do something to remember it. And so we talked about having a tattoo because we don't have one and we thought that would be kind of cool to do," Dennis said.
So they did...and what better symbol to remember their chance meeting at the State Fair than 'Big Tex' himself?
"We've shocked our kids! And our grandkids! But never say never...never say never!"
They just got the ink a few months ago...so when the horrific scene unfolded on Friday, it was like seeing a part of them go up in flames...literally.
"I was devastated. Because it's a big symbol in our lives you know. And we've always enjoyed the State Fair together," Alice said.
Dennis says since all of their friends knew about their 'Big Tex' tats, their phones lit up on Friday.
"I got texts all day long about it, ya know, 'Big Tex, what are you gonna do?' 'Are you sad or whatever?' And so...they'll just rebuild him and he'll be bigger and better than ever," they said.
