TYLER — Kool Smiles in Tyler sees both kids and their parents.
Like other dental offices, the couple of weeks after Halloween night are pretty busy for them.
"Cavities, absesses, and then patients with very poor oral hygiene, with bad odor in their mouth," said Dr. Mona Agarwal.
Dr. Agarwal explains why the night of binge candy eating is such a bad thing.
"You're spending more time like eating more frequently. That makes a lot of difference because you're exposed to more sugar, more frequently. And you're not brushing well," Dr. Agarwal said.
And the candy to stay away from is the sticky kind...like taffy for example.
The sugars will stick to your teeth and along with the bacteria already in your mouth, it will start dissolving the layers on your pearly whites.
Candy that's ok? Surprisingly, chocolate is not all that bad.
Kool Smiles is also offering an alternative to having a candy hangover, they're teaming with Operation Gratitude. For every 25 pieces of candy a kid donates, they'll get a free toy!
And in turn, the candy will be sent in care packages to troops overseas.
Something that means a lot to office manager Carl Sjernstrom.
"My son Tyler is in the Navy, he's a navy coreman. He actually served on the Carl Vincent during the Bin Laden burial at sea so...I'm very proud of him and it...kind of hits home," Sjernstrom said.
