Local Republicans and Tea Partiers respond to Obama victory

TYLER — Tuesday night, a little after 10, the race was called for President Obama.

Smith County Republican party chair Ashton Oravetz had one thought.

"Oh no!  Because it really was a sad event.  Because even though after some other things, I was still hoping that he would do it.  I knew that we weren't gonna get the senate but I thought he could probably pull it out and I was sort of surprised that he didn't," Oravetz said.

Oravetz tells KETK, Romney just wasn't the best candidate. 

He never tackled the President enough on Obamacare or even the situation in Benghazi...but Oravetz was still holding out hope for a Romney presidency.

"I think we made a decision last night that's not gonna be undone.  We've decided to go on the road of socialism and...you know, I really ache for my country," he said.

KETK spoke with Tammy Blair with the Tyler Tea Party.

Also, not in the best of moods.

"Last night, we watched America die.  It is clear that a majority of Americans do not share the values of liberty," Blair said.

Blair says the establishment republicans chose a moderate candidate that was unelectable.

Blair says as far as Texas goes, many are realizing secession may be the only solution.

She says the Texas Nationalist Movement website was popular wednesday.

So the question is, what now?

"Stop being mesmerized by Washington.  It's broken, okay?  Broken beyond repair.  We need to focus on Austin.  There's where we can do something," Blair said.

"They have to go back to the roots and they have to stand for something," Oravetz said.

Blair also told KETK the Republican party is a problem.

She says if they're not going to be different, they need to go to the dust bins of history.
