TYLER — East Texans love to go out to eat on Sunday afternoons.
Today is Veterans Day. So those who have served our country got a free meal from many restaurants nationwide. Here in East Texas, restaurants like Chilis, Olive Garden, Einstein Bagels and Texas Roadhouse lent a helping hand to the heroes.
Applebee's manager Casey Stout tells KETK, they are letting East Texas veterans choose from 8 different entrees.
Stout says it's the least they can do to say "thank you."
"For our freedoms and just for everything they've done for us. It's a small thing we can do as a company to show appreciation for the sacrifices that others have made," Stout said.
We caught up with Marine Bill Morse.
It's been a busy weekend for him. Saturday was the Marine Core birthday and Sunday, he's having a Veterans Day lunch with his family.
Morse is a Vietnam veteran.
"I was in Vietnam from '67-'68. I was in Cuba in '66 and Grenada in '86.
Morse is thankful to Applebee's and other restaurants for recognizing the importance of the day.
"I think it's great, I think everybody should recognize our veterans because the sacrifices people made for the country and are still making for this country needs to be recognized," Morse said.
