RUSK COUNTY — In 1847, 14 years before the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter to signal the start of the war between the states, a little church was organized in Rusk County.
The church still exists today and worshipers still call the building “home” and the members “family.”
During a 165th Anniversary ceremony Sunday, members, and visitors gathered at Pirtle United Methodist Church to celebrate years of history that started before the nation was torn apart by Civil War.
