Lufkin ,Tx — Though he didn’t take the stand in his own defense this past week, Jacob Woodard on Friday night broke his silence on what went wrong Feb. 7, the night he fatally shot Robert Darnell Bennett.
During an interview from deep inside the Angelina County Jail, the 19-year-old — clad in county orange, handcuffed and shackled — said it was his own “selfish ambitions” that led to Bennett’s death in the course of a robbery attempt gone wrong. An Angelina County jury earlier in the day had found Woodard guilty of capital murder, meaning he would automatically serve a life sentence in prison.
