Tyler, Texas — People used to wait until after Thanksgiving to bring out the Christmas decorations, but that's just not the case anymore. One store we spoke to said they get their Christmas shipments in during may!
So, if you haven't noticed yet Christmas decorations are already flooding stores, malls, and people's houses here in East Texas.
Jeremy Boyd, Co-Manager of Hobby Lobby in Tyler, said, "Generally people start shopping it heavily in November, but they're looking over it in June, July, and august."
This year Christmas decorations showed up long before Halloween, so what is it that makes people so anxious to start early?
Deann Robertson, designer from The Christmas Store in Tyler, said, "I think we just as a culture we just have to have everything instantaneously so its just faster and faster so the holidays are the same way." Shoppers we spoke with said, if you wait until after Thanksgiving, everything passes by too quickly. One shopper, Judy Richter, said, "I shop for Christmas twelve months out of the year."
We also spoke with Santa Claus, who says while he enjoys celebrating Thanksgiving first, for him, Christmas is year-long event. Santa said, "A lot of the stores are having these sales early so we have to have the toys ready."
So by the looks of it, if you haven't started decorating yet, than you're already behind!
