With the biggest shopping day of the year upon us, Tyler Police are putting out a friendly reminder to keep safe while out getting a deal.
Some may think some of it seems redundant, but police say auto burglaries are always up this time of year.
They say you'd be surprised by how many little mistakes people continue to make.
Officer Kerri Long with Tyler Police says staying safe while shopping starts before you even bust through those store doors.
"You need to pay attention to your surroundings," Long said. "If you see someone acting suspicious, you need to let an employee know."
While you're inside, keep your belongings tied to your side.
"Don't leave them in the shopping carts, and when you're walking away ,take the purse with you," Long said.
When you're on to that next destination, make sure you have your keys in your hand.
"That way, you are ready to put your packages in your vehicle," Long said.
Police say so many people still forget to even lock their doors to their cars.
Another suggestion: If you have a trunk, put your gifts in there instead the back seat to avoid tempting those Grinches out there.
