CNN — Republican Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina will announce GOP Sen. Jim DeMint's successor at noon EST on Monday, her spokesman posted on Twitter.
"@nikkihaley will announce an appointment to fill the vacancy created by @JimDeMint's retirement during 12 PM Statehouse," Rob Godfrey wrote.
DeMint announced earlier this month he would resign his from his Senate seat by January 1 to lead The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington.
Haley's pick will fill the Senate spot until a special election will take place in 2014 for the last two years of DeMint's term.
