Officials investigating after dead dogs found under Upshur County bridge

Upshur County Sheriff's officials are investigating after three dead dogs were found under a bridge east of Gilmer.

The dogs were found under the Cypress Creek bridge at FM 726 and Texas 154, Upshur County Sheriff’s Capt. Gary Roberts said Tuesday.

One of the dogs was found in a black garbage bag, one in an Ol’ Roy feed sack and the other was lying out in the open, Roberts said.

The three dogs, which are believed to have been mixed breeds, were severely decomposed, he said.

Roberts said investigators could not tell whether the dogs had been shot or whether they had died of natural causes and someone just left them under the bridge to dispose of the bodies.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking into the case, he said.
