New York — (CNN) -- Gunshots rang out as firefighters responded to a blaze at a house in upstate New York on Monday, officials said.
Someone shot at the firefighters when they arrived at the scene shortly before 6 a.m., said Rob Boutillier, fire marshal in the town of Webster, New York.
Two firefighters were being treated for injuries, said Teri D'Agostino, a spokeswoman for Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.
The fire spread to a second house in the neighborhood, Boutillier said, but gunfire stopped firefighters from battling it.
