Texas — East Texas leaders tentatively cheered the government’s action to avoid going over the “fiscal cliff” while worrying that Tuesday’s eleventh-hour deal left many unanswered questions.
“You still have uncertainty, and whether you are in business or county and city government, there are still questions about what they are going to do now on the budget side,” said Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt.
The bargain, struck by the Senate and President Barack Obama and agreed to late Tuesday by the House of Representatives, maintains tax cuts on all but the richest Americans while delaying deep across-the-board spending cuts.
