President uses signing statement after campaigning otherwise

Tyler TX — Last night, President Obama used  a signing statement.

It was an effort to change the meaning of the defense funding bill that congress sent to him for his signature:

The president's signing statement clarified many points he opposed in the bill while still approving it.

Yet while campaigning for president in 2008, Mr. Obama said that "signing statements" are a presidential power grab, and made clear he believed they violate the constitution.
