NBC News — Flu season has hit early and hard. The CDC released a new report tracking the flu around the country today.
The report says that for four consecutive weeks the number of people going to the doctor for flu-like symptoms has spike from 2.8% to 5.6%.
The CDC says twenty-nine states and New York City have reported high levels of a flu-like illness.
The Southeast has been particularly affected wtih widespread flu cases reported.
Doctors say the flu vaccine this year appears to be a good match for the circulating virus. There is still time to get the vaccine.
Doctors say the flu season could last into the spring.
