Tyler, Tx — When I was off last week, I regretted I could not share this story with you the minute I saw it.
A New York state newspaper editor decided to publish an interactive map in her paper pointing out who had gun permits. It listed their names, where they lived.
Now the first thing I thought of when I heard and read about this was "what an idiot." She just pointed out who was not armed.
Not everyone wants a gun and I respect that. But trying, I guess, to shame those who have firearms, she pointed out who were sitting ducks.
But, this gets better. As you can imagine, those who were listed in the newspaper as owning a firearm were not happy. So the publisher started catching heat. No specific threats, but just unhappy call and email.
This has upset her. So, what did she do? She hired a security company to protect the paper.
And yes, this security firm has guards who are-- wait for it-- armed.
She doesn't like guns. She wants to expose those who have firearms.
So she does it, gets heat.
Now, fearing for her own safety, she hired people with guns.
These people beat everything I've ever seen. What I guess she is saying is "my life is more important than yours."
I need protection from a gun. I'm an important newspaper publisher.
You, person of lesser caliber-- no pun intended-- fend for your unwashed self.
Oh, by the way, the gun lovers posted her name, address and phone number online. They also hand a link to her Facebook page which is no longer available.
Rules for thee, but not for me.
That's my point of view, what's yours?
