Lufkin ,Tx — New Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches on Monday said a half of million dollars worth of accrued comp time is the reason he is having to replace his chief deputy in his second week on the job.
Sanches’ plan was to amend the pay schedule to give his incoming support staff, including newly hired Chief Deputy Doug Conn, a raise. But, because of budget issues caused by $500,000 worth of comp time accumulated under the previous administration’s watch, Sanches said, his plan has been delayed. He said Angelina County Auditor Eddie Gray informed him of the issue on Sanches’ second day in office.
