TYLER (KETK) — Tyler City Council met Wednesday morning and voted to move forward with the development of a new Hotel and Convention center in Tyler.
Council will move forward and sign a contract with a Dallas based company to begin the process within the next 18 months.
The new hotel would possibly hold 200 to 250 rooms, and would offer an ideal space for business meetings and conventions.
Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass says over the years Tyler has lost lots of convention business. She says moving forward with this project was the best thing to do for the city. Bass says, "It will be an economic driver not just for the convention center and this new hotel but for the greater community the hotels and for the retail community everyone will benefit because of this, jobs will be created, there are a lot of positive factors but we have a lot of work to do before we get there."
Tyler could see a multi-million dollar hotel and convention center by March of 2016.
There are three possibly locations being discussed
Bass says, "The number one spot was on South Broadway on the North side of Loop 49."
The second possible location is near Earl Campbell and Lake Bellwood, and the third possible location is off of West Loop 323 and Spur 364.
