Tyler TX (KETK) — A man,who tried breaking into a home Saturday morning, is in the hospital after being stabbed by the homeowner.
Smith County Sheriff's got a call about a home invasion in the Pine Trail Shores area in Flint around 1:30 Saturday morning.
Smith County Sheriff's office tells KETK the homeowner was not home when the intruder entered.
The homeowner saw the intruder in his house and started stabbing him with an unknown object.
Smith County Sheriff, Larry Smith, tells KETK there was a fight between the homeowner and the intruder during the invasion.
After being stabbed, the intruder, whose name will not be released until he gets out of the hospital, went to a neighbors house asking for help.
The neighbor called 911 and EMS took the stabbed man to a local hospital.
KETK spoke with both the homeowner and the neighbor but they did not want to comment on camera.
Sheriff Smith says homeowners have the right to protect themselves and their home if they suspect there life or the life of someone else is in jeopardy.
Even if they need to use deadly force to protect themselves.
Sheriff Smith says in some rural parts of the county, deputies try to respond as quickly as possible.
But if someone is breaking into your house, you need to be prepared.
"We cant be immediately there if someone is breaking into your house. We're not going to get there in time so be prepared to fend for yourself until we are able to get there," said Sheriff Smith.
The intruder will be charged with burglary when he is released from the hospital.
