Tyler, Texas (KETK) — For the devout Christian, there has never been any question, the power of prayer is real.
In fact, studies have shown prayer can prevent people from getting sick. And a study from Duke University proves prayer can heal some even after they become ill.
Here in East Texas, prayer is all around us. And we've found it works.
Since 2009, Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church has opened its doors to the public and hosts a "Charismatic Healing Mass."
It's different than a regular healing mass because they emphasize healing and the charismatic gifts, which include wisdom, prophecy and word of knowledge.
It's free. And, it's simple. You come to be healed.
Lori Harris is one of the directors of the mass. She works alongside Father Timothy Kelly and a prayer team of Protestants and Catholics to bring this type of mass to East Texas.
To her knowledge, there are only two masses like this nationwide-- here and in Houston.
Prayer requests come from all over the US. And, clergy come in from Texas and Louisiana.
