Longview, Tx (KETK) — An East Texas student is nearing her dream after getting a little help along the way.
Letourneau University senior Whitney Brouwer received a $5,000 scholarship last week. The money was donated by female pilots Dianna Stanger and Victoria Holt, who make up the "Racing Aces."
The pair won the money in a June 2012 race and decided to donate it to a female student who wanted to be a pilot.
Stanger tells KETK, in a male dominated industry, it's always good to get another female in the air.
"Usually I'm the only female pilot in a room and if I can bring another female in the room, then it's a very special day," said Stanger.
Brouwer earned her private pilot's certificate in August 2010 and has logged over 250 flight hours.
Women make up only seven percent of pilots.
