Tyler, Tx (KETK) — The last of the strawberries are being dipped into the baths of Belgium, as bakeries across East Texas have been prepping for the big Valentine’s day rush.
Holly Short, Owner of Ganache in Tyler says, "We've been prepping for over a week, and we always look forward to Valentine’s Day it's always exciting. Everyone is always looking to buy something that is the favorite of someone’s, so we look forward to that." And most of those favorites include, chocolate.
Short says, "Everyone wants a white chocolate, or a dark chocolate or a milk chocolate something!"
Millions of Americans will buy or partake in a sweet treat this Valentine’s day, but before your decide on a dark devils food, or a delicious cake-pop, think about what your heart would want.
Registered Dietitian, Sara Upson explains, "Some of the benefits that the chocolate really gives you is it can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering blood pressure. Decreased ‘LDL' which is the bad cholesterol you could say, and it helps reduce the oxidation of free radicals, so it helps with ant- inflammatory effects." Upson also explains that chocolate can also be a mood booster!
but not all chocolate is created equal, Upson explains, "There is specific chocolate that has those health benefits, and that's dark chocolate, chocolate specifically 65% dark or more."
Sara Upson, registered dietitian explains, the darker—the better.
So if you care about your health, fall “in love” with dark chocolate this Valentine’s day.
