Kilgore, TX (Longview News-Journal) — Kilgore City Council members this week approved more than $95,000 in disbursements of taxes collected from hotel guests to five local programs that contribute to tourism numbers.
The Texas Shakespeare Festival received the lion’s share of the grant, at $35,000, plus another $5,000 to market this summer’s event.
The Kilgore Main Street Program was given $30,000, while the Kilgore Arts Festival drew $4,500, City Clerk Debbie Dane reported.
Another $5,700 was dedicated to the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation, while $15,000 was earmarked for Overton Films to help fund a documentary on the Kilgore College Rangerettes.
In other business Tuesday, the council awarded a $335,000 contract to Utility Service Co. to paint the Danville elevated storage tank.
