Rusk County — After living for more than a decade in a rural area of Rusk County where the only source of water has been a well that was prone to running low, Roosevelt Hunter is eagerly anticipating new water lines being laid next month.
“The water we have isn’t suitable for drinking,” Hunter said. “I’m looking forward to being able to have fresh water whenever I want it.”
Hunter is one of about 65 families living in the Church Hill community in the eastern part of the county who will have water piped in from the city of Henderson beginning this spring, said Pct. 2 Commissioner Mike Pepper.
The county has been working to get water service to the Church Hill area for about 25 years, Pepper said, and has actively pursued grants to make it possible for about four years. The project is being funded by a $350,000 Texas Community Development Block Grant.
