Texas — State Sen. Kevin Eltife was bemused Wednesday by statewide media attention to a proposal he’s been floating for years to increase the gasoline tax to pay for highways.
“It’s the same thing I’ve been saying forever,” said Eltife, R-Tyler. “It really isn’t a special proposal. My call is that we have sold $13 billion in debt the last 10 years. We have maxed out the credit card, and I always said we should pay cash and not go into debt.”
