Tyler, Tx (KETK) — The Rose City Chili Pod in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Tyler has announced the 32nd Rose City Chili Cookoff on March 2.
Gates will open 11:00 a.m. at Gander Mountain, located on Highway 69 South.
For a $5 donation, attendees will get a tasting cup, spoon and a ballot to vote for the People's Choice chili. Also included will be different concessions and arts and crafts.
Registration for anyone entering the contests will begin at 8:45 a.m. The first 50 people to sign up will get a free goody bag!
Chili cookoff entries are sanctioned by CASI rules and include a $20 fee that must be turned in by 2:00 p.m. Also available for entry is a bean cookoff. Participants must pay $10 and turn in their paperwork by noon. The top three places will be paid out in a 50/30/20 split.
Those under the age of 17 will be able to enter chili in the Junior division. The $10 entry fee must be turned in by noon.
A cooks meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m.
The public is invited to attend and everyone is allowed to enter any competition.
Showmanship, which is judged on theme, costume, booth decoration, action and audience participation will begin around 11:00 a.m.
Chili will be judged on aroma, red color, consistency, taste and aftertaste, according to the rules of CASI. For more information see www.chili.org [1]
2012 Terlingua International Chili Champion T.J. Cannon will be in attendance, sponsored by Country Inn & Suites of Tyler.
Proceeds to benefit local Rotary projects and ET SPCA.
Judges are needed for all areas of competition. They will be asked to check in by 12:45 p.m.
