HENDERSON, TX — The Rusk County Emergency Services District in May will ask county voters to approve an increase in its tax rate, the first it has sought since being established 23 years ago.
The plan was presented Tuesday morning to the Rusk County Commissioners Court by district President Travis Prior, who said state budget changes necessitate the move.
“We don’t have any other way to fund the purchase of firetrucks for the volunteer fire departments in our district,” Prior said. “The fires during 2011 wore out some of our trucks and, in any case, they need to be replaced on a regular basis like any other kind of vehicle.”
