Tyler , TX (KETK) — The University of Texas at Tyler will offer a three-year Accelerated Degree Program this Fall.
The Department of Health and Kinesiology and the College of Business and Technology is offering incoming freshmen a new degree track that will allow them to earn a degree faster and get them into the work force sooner.
This three-year program will be offered to students majoring in Accounting, Finance, Health Studies, Human Resource Development, Kinesiology, Management, Marketing and Technology.
Students like Freshman Brittany Harp like the idea of a fast track program.
"I wanted to graduate early and get in early but I couldn't because I would have to take it at a UT Tyler campus. It would be great if I could do it in the summer online."
The new three-year program will give students, like Brittany, the option to graduate college sooner.
However, it would be with the same amount of classes, experiences and outcome as a four-year degree.
Dr. Scott Marzilli is the Assistant Vice President of Academic Innovation at UT Tyler.
He hopes the program will help alleviate some of the stress of school by spreading the required hours into three semesters: fall, spring and summer.
"It's really a gradual progression of looking at offering more classes in the summer, and what can we do with the degree plan. We made it work so you can finish in three years," said Marzilli.
And for students who need to work over the summer or want to go home, Dr. Marzilli says 95% of the summer classes will be online.
An option most students are happy about.
"It would be nice to have all online stuff so you can do everything on your time and not have to drive up here," said Junior Laura Hagood.
"I wanted to graduate early but I wasn't sure that would work. Now that it is an option it would be great," said Freshman Brooklyn Gonzalez.
