Tyler , TX (KETK) — A new kind of gasoline is said to be cleaner and save people money at the pump.
But, many automobile industry's disagree with this.
E-15 is a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.
The Environmental Protection Agency says this blend is better for the environment and will cost consumers less money.
But, Dave Satterwhite, manager of Higginbotham True Value Hardware, says too much ethanol causes problems with lawn equipment.
Satterwhite says 20 to 50 people a week bring their lawn equipment in to get fixed or replaced.
That is racking another $64 on to an already expensive tool.
"10% has already been a major problem and now 15 is going to be a real problem. They are going to have to try and determine if there is a way to eliminate carbonation and go to fuel injection or electronic fuel injection to eliminate all issues," said Satterwhite.
Automotive Technology Professor at Tyler Junior College David Briscoe agrees.
Briscoe tells KETK ethanol is primarily made of alcohol which strips the fuel lines and causes problems to engines especially in older cars.
The EPA says E-15 is safe for cars and trucks 2001 and newer, but not for boats buses and motorcycles.
Briscoe says the best option is to use diesel or progress completely to hybrids.
"Alcohol and gasoline don't mix they separate. Driving down the road all your doing is is agitating it and drawing it in," said Briscoe.
