Tyler TX (KETK) — A homeless resource center in Tyler, has been open on East Valentine Street since September.
During that time, Gateway to Hope has changed the lives of hundreds who have entered its doors.
But many of the people who live in the neighborhood on East Valentine want the center to move.
They say, once the center closes at 4 p.m.., many of the homeless people stay around and bother residences and businesses.
Earlier this month, the Tyler Planning and Zoning committee ruled to not extend the facility's special permit for the five years they requested.
Pat Mallory, the center's executive director, says she did not see this coming.
Mallory tells KETK, the center has found jobs for more than one hundred homeless people in Tyler, since facility opened back in September.
