A group of lucky second graders have a new friend to help them read this year.
"She always makes me get 100s on my tests," said student Parker Hardie.
Carleigh, a six-year-old, Golden Retriever has been a certified therapy dog for four years
Billie Cannon, a retired Lindale teacher, brings Carleigh to Sheila Germany's second grade class twice a week.
"She's just an extremely patient, loyal, kind and forgiving dog, and those are the qualities we always want to emulate," Cannon said. "She helps the children to focus. When they are reading and they are apprehensive, they reach down to stroke her or hold her tail and they calm down immediately."
"She's about the closest thing to a human in talking that a dog can get," said Steel Turner, a student.
