(KETK) Jacksonville Tx — As Mud Nationals continues out in Jacksonville, so does the traffic turning into Mud Creek off Highway 79.
"All of them are hooked on adrenaline it's just like dirt car racing or NASCAR racing they are hooked on speed, challenge, and a little bit of danger," said event organizer Scott Smith.
But a little bit of danger, multiplied by 15,000, can pose problems.
"You know unfortunately with ATV sometimes there are incidents but we've got a really highly qualified staff here to take care of them."
Including police officers, helping with traffic flow and security, as well as med teams on the ready.
"There's a risk with anything you do nowadays but as long as you take in the safety features and you're doing everything correctly," said MTA vendor John Soileau.
Among all the new features, sometimes the basics are the best.
"A helmet is the number one thing I would recommend, all the events you see out here that we're operating is mandatory helmets, for the recreational riding helmets are optional but it's always a good idea to keep a helmet on," said Smith
But no matter you have strapped on or what you're strapped in, honestly knowing how well you can ride can be your best protection.
"You're responsible for you and all the safety gear in the world is not gonna change that you need to be careful."
