Longview — Redevelopment will be a prime focus of a task force looking at the city’s Interstate 20 corridor, members decided Thursday at their first working meeting.
“The task force would like to learn more about the best practices of other cities that have been successful in redevelopment,” said Dale Lunsford, chairman of the task force. “As opposed to the new development of raw land, redevelopment has its own unique challenges.”
Redevelopment projects in Waco, Lubbock and Texarkana all could offer ideas about best practices for such work, the task force learned.
Members heard presentations from Michael Shirley, a city planner, and Susan Mazarakes-Gill, executive director of the Longview Economic Development Corp. Those presentations were aimed at providing task force members with information on the history of the corridor and its condition, as well as demographic and statistical data.
