Because the lives of people are involved (the woman and the unborn child), abortion can never be a totally private and unregulated activity, any more than other socioeconomic interactions, like driving. Society has a stake in it,to protect itself and its members. Therefore, abortion is a public legal/moral issue, not a private/personal one. No one has a "right" to kill innocent people.
