Choir, band, and art? I think you forgot some of the extra-curricula-activities, didn't you? Sports!
Just because sports bring in money doesn't mean it is important. Very few, if any,of our children will make a living with sports, choir, band or the arts.
I have to say, the TAKS studies and test is more important than any extra-curricula-activities. Drop one or all these and teach/study for the TAKS. If the government is going to require it. If not drop the testing.
The children should be going to school from 8 to 5 and vacation only when parents get vacations, anyway.
