It looks as if the alligator live in a pond with a hig iron content. This picture looks like he is either covered in iron rich mud or has been stained by the substance. Iron rich clay will most definately stian skin. My cousins and I played in the East Texas red clay mud puddles after rainstorms when we were kids and we would have to scrub like crazy to get the orange stains off of our skin.
