Police opened fire and killed a former correctional officer just moments after he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend at her Central Texas home. Georgetown police say three officers have been put on administrative leave.

Police say 38-year-old Terry Lynn Pittman was slain Monday night as her four children, ages 14 to 1 year old, were home. The youngsters weren't hurt. Police say one child called 911 as Pittman and 52-year-old Anthony Ray Blackmon of Manor (MAY'-ner) argued.

The arriving officers heard the pair in a bedroom, then gunfire as police forced their way into the room. Capt. Kevin Stofle says Blackmon fired at officers, who returned fire.

Autopsy results are pending. Police believe that Blackmon, who's a former Travis County sheriff's corrections officer, was the father of the infant.
