Four story building evacuates after structure column shifts
HOUSTON-TEXAS - A four-story office building in Houston was evacuated after one of the structure's columns shifted, scaring people inside and causing minor damage.
Houston Fire Department Assistant Chief Herbert Griffin says between 75 and 100 people vacated the building after they heard a boom sound Friday morning and felt the structure shift. Griffin says one of the building's columns apparently shifted, dropping the structure by one inch and cracking some windows.
The building has been closed and engineers with the city of Houston are performing structural tests to determine if it is safe. Occupants were allowed to go back in briefly and retrieve personal items.
No injuries were reported.
