A sophomore Texarkana state representative caused a stir this week when he announced he would once again push for an open carry gun law when the legislative session convenes in January.
Rep. George Lavender hopes to spearhead legislation that would allow residents who have been approved for concealed-weapon carrying to carry holstered pistols in the open.
He was behind similar legislation that was not passed in the 2011 legislative session.
Texas is one of six states that forbids open carry in all forms.

You carry a gun for one reason and one reason only, to protect yourself, your family, and others. If you are not mature enough to control your anger you should not carry or even have a gun. I look at it this way, crooks, idiots, drug dealers, gang members, etc, carry guns, that's a fact just read the paper, law abiding citizens should and do have the right to protect themselves. Outlaws already have guns & police can't be everywhere, do you want to survive or be a victim.
So much for a compassionate United States for any of us...a peaceful country...brotherhood...the absence of violence...a sense of community, helping others, respecting other people, putting down the weapons of killing & teaching children kindness, caring for our neighbors, living the Golden Rule...so much for this country leading the way to peace for the world...open carry, killing & asking questions later...this is what we leave future generations...I'll throw my rose-colored glasses away now.
Look at the recent killing of an innocent Black Florida teen over a loud car radio...this young man was sitting in the back seat when a disgruntled gun-toting murderer decided to spray the car with 8 shots, hitting and killing the teen.. over loud music? Now he says he saw the barrel of a gun come up over the open window and, fearing for his life, he unloaded on the car...only problem with this is that NONE of the 4 teens in the car had a weapon of any kind. Open carry = murder in the open.
Should be able to carry a gun if you have been a citizen for 20 years & pass a background check, along with having to show that you can actually use it, no license required.
Out of curiosity, who or what do you plan on shooting? Of course, you have the right to defend your home or and your family...but what if you get ticked off at someone like these kids...they will move on from the gas station soon, or you have the option to move on to another yourself, but are you capable, in a rage and with a gun on the seat next to you, to fire 8 rounds into a car just because you can? How does anyone handle irrational rage in an irritating buy innocent situation?
