A huge transcontinental pipeline is underway to ship oil from the Canadian tarsands down to refineries in Houston.

The section through East Texas though has met stiff resistance.

KETK first told you about the group almost a year ago, and this weekend saw some new developments.
STOP or Stop the Tarsands Oil Pipelines is a group of angry Texans who are upset at parts of their properties being taken for pipeline right of way, and worried about what the pipes contain.

It’s technically oil, but it’s also much more.

The problem is, that land is owned by East Texans, and they are mad.

The Keystone XL pipeline is awaiting a final go ahead from the US government, and the weekend saw an interesting back and forth.

The parent company Transcanada was told on Friday to halt the pipeline due to two spils along the route in the last month.

But on Saturday, they got the go ahead to restart.

The local group hope to stop the project for safety reasons.

But spokesman James Prescott says, Transcanada’s record is excellent.

Ultimately the yea or nay will land on the President’s desk. Today was the last day for public comment, and both sides are confident.

Transcanada insists the leaks have all been minor, one of the two last month spilled 400 barrels of oil mixture before the line was shut off.
