SPCA finds 4 horses dead; saves 7 emaciated horses near Dallas
Dallas, TX — Animal welfare officers in Dallas have made a grim discovery, finding four horses dead and seven emaciated on a property in southwest Dallas.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas says the situation was reported Wednesday near the intersection of Loop 12 and Lancaster Road.
SPCA of Texas spokeswoman Maura Davies tells KTVT-TV of Fort Worth and Dallas says no water was found on the property for the horses, and the animals couldn't reach what little food was there. Instead, the horses ate the bark and twigs off trees, which Davies says have little nutritive value.
The SPCA is now caring for the surviving horses, and a custody hearing is scheduled for next week.
