The University of Texas at Austin is seeking ouster of creationist group
AUSTIN-TX A group of faculty and staff from the University of Texas at Austin are seeking the ouster of a creationist group from a list of charities approved for state employee donations.
The Austin American-Statesman reports the State Employee Charitable Campaign will consider the group's grievance against the Institute of Creation Research at a Friday meeting in Austin. The panel decides each year what charities state workers can support through payroll deductions.
The critics question whether the group meets a legal requirement that the charities provide "direct or indirect health and human services." David Hills, an integrative biology professor at UT, calls the institute "an anti-science organization."
