National Republicans have tapped Rep. Francisco “Quico” Canseco to speak at the GOP presidential nominating convention on August 27, officials said Monday.

Canseco, R-San Antonio, is a freshman lawmaker in hot congressional race that is attracting national attention and scores of funding from outside groups.

He faces state Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, in the Nov. 6 general election.
