A second East Texas solider died this past weekend in Afghanistan.

Family members have confirmed that U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua David Powell, 28, of Quitman, was killed Saturday while serving in Afghanistan.

Gladewater High School graduate U.S. Army Warrant Officer Bradley Justin Gaudet was also killed Saturday during an unrelated helicopter crash. He was on his third tour of duty.

Powell was killed in a Humvee, along with three other soldiers, while serving his country, according to a statement released by the family.

Powell was the son of Quitman residents Ray and Brenda Powell. He was a 2001 graduate of Quitman High School.

Funeral services are pending.

I will be glad when this war ends and bring our soliders home. It is an unncessary war and waisted lives.

I agree completely and though the closer we get to election time the more we hear the candidates and mainstream media advocate bringing our troops home, I know that Ron Paul is the only candidate who stood by the decission never to go to war in the first place.
